Breathe my Soul, Breathe - 24cm Porcelain Plate

Breathe My Soul, Breathe incorporates a pattern and various lines to create a subtle optical illusion that plays with perception. At first glance, it appears to be a dynamic abstract composition, but upon closer inspection, the Chinese character “呼吸” (Hu Xi, meaning “to breathe”) begins to emerge.

This hidden message is intentional. It invites the viewer to pause, focus, and engage more deeply with the artwork. In doing so, it serves as a gentle reminder to slow down and take a breath, both literally and metaphorically. Breathe My Soul, Breathe encourages mindfulness in the everyday, transforming a simple visual into a moment of reflection.

A collaboration with Lee Jun Le, whose daily practice of writing meaningful words evolved into the creation of a unique and expressive typeface, known as JunLe Font, a quiet language of the mind and soul.

Porcelain is a medium where colour variation is a natural occurring feature of reactive, speckled, matte and cobalt-blue glazed finishing. Irregularities in glaze and texture should be celebrated as a mark of the artist's hand. Therefore, each piece is unique and has a handcrafted element to it.
